RE:RE:RE:RE:What's up with Fort Hills?Yep...the only real advantage for SU in buying out Total is that they don't have a partner to deal with in terms of the expansion and the associated capital costs for Fort Hills.
That said, in terms of getting feedstock for the upgraders long term, Fort Hills IMO is still the cheapest and lowest risk option for SU. So if the price is right compared to their other options, they will buy out Total.
From Total's point of view, they know they are the cheapest option for SU. SU has been told by the Environment Minister that they won't get approval for the Base Plant expansion and so SU is waiting until after the election in 2025 to submit the environmental stuff. If the Libs get re-elected for another 5 years in 2025 then there will be lots of pressure on SU to do some sort of deal.
When you put all that together, we may well not see anything on Fort Hills for a couple of years.
