RE:RE:RE:RE:AT&T Talk About Lead CablesMost media has a strong environmental focus these days.
I would have thought that since the WSJ broke the story in the states that the Globe and Mail would have picked it up in Canada. The WSJ includes several examples of what they determine lead contaminated sites caused by the lead sheathed cables. Without any Canadian sites to point to as having similar contamination I don't think a corresponding story can be seen as legitamite.
BCE certainly has enough competition out there in the media world that wouldn't mind taking a shot or two at it. But not without proof.
Even in the states real liablility and damages are going to have to be proven. Hard to do with the amount of lead plumbing, lead hunting shot and sinkers that have been used far later than the lead clad cables were last put into use. Even leaded gasonline was still being burned after they stopped putting lead sheathed cables in the ground by a few decades.
BCE might have to weather the storm as it is getting sent lower. But other telcos are down as much if not more and I am not sure they were even around when lead cables were in use.

They could simply contact BCE to learn if company has lead-shielded cabling and publish an article with their response while referencing the situation in the US. To date, nowhere in the CBC international news section is there a report on the issues uncovered by the WSJ. I figured the CBC would be running a basic story already since they have a strong focus on global environmental issues these days.
