RE:RE:Reply to iMAnewBEMr/Mrs iMAnewBE .........I personally think you made the RIGHT (meaning smart!) move by unloading, even at these low prices, and moving on to something with more potential & better future prospects. There are a few out there in the Canadian O&G space, more viable than Suncor AND with much less risk. BUT in Suncor's defence and to address the "after a year of this stock going nowhere" comment, to be frank, most of the sector DID peak in mid 2022 and didn't do much after that. In other words, it wasn't only isolated to Suncor's stock price. But apart from that little facts and like i mentioned, Suncor is in a unique position in it's own little niche space with its own unique problems & issues. This much is known to be true and complete fact.
With that aside & said, i personally would NOT have chosen Whitecap as THE stock to trasnfer into from Suncor. For reasons of my own of course. But regardless your choice is STILL way better than what Suncor currently has to offer, as well into the forseeable future. Though Whitecap isn't anything special or something that would turn heads, they are THE workhorse along with Crescent Point of the Canadian O&G sector. Reliable, stable, soild and will do & perform that way it was intended to and what investors come to expect from companies like them. Not my personal favorite by any metric, and a little too indebted for my tastes, BUT it will do ok in the long term. I see WhiteCap & CrescentPoint being sister companies, TRUE peers to one another and completely interchangeable. An invest in WhiteCap is like an investment in CPG and vice cersa and i see NO difference between them.
So well done for having the courage to move on, something that greatly lacks in many investors because of emotional attachments ot certain positions. Even when the facts are staring them in the face or falling completely on their heads. Before i end this, i just want to say that by having chosen Whtiecap as your Chosen Knight in the Canaidan O&G space, i hope you are aware that Whitecap is a serial predator whe it comes to M&A. And they have been so for some time now and afre DUE to make another move VERY soon.
As i've explained on another forum, both Whitecap and CrescentPoint are reactive to each others moves and mirror them when one acts. Since CPG has already made its move for the year by purchasing assets from Spartan, expect for Whitecap to follow suit with a move of their own.......soon. Imo, expect something on this front from them sometime before year end and the latest Q1 of 2024. As it's been awhile since the last purchase. So don't be shocked, angry or frustrated when they do, as i'm giving you a heads up now and advanced warning to soften the blow. Always KNOW what you invest in (and all the risks!) before hand to make sure you're not surprised or blindsided, its half the battle to succesful investing.
I hope our little discussion has made you a better, more informed investor........And i wish you good luck friend with your NEW venture.
