RE:Here we go againQuebec must be special Countryboy because that's where a lot of people from this neck of the woods wanted to go. Many ended up staying there.I say "wanted" but this past April JT effectively shut down the famous Roxham Road crossing point on Quebec's border with the US. Prior to the new laws migrants used to illegally cross into Quebec, get arrested and claim asylum. Now they're deported almost immediately back to the US which deports them back to their home countries.
Everyone is adopting these new rules where if you passed through a safe third country to get to the US or Canada then you will be refused entry if had not first applied for and had been denied asylum in that safe third country. Now every country in the chain of countries involved in the migration routes is deporting people back to safe third countries. Plus US Border Protection is requiring people to apply for asylum online outside of the US and not in person at US points of entry.
Illegal entry into the US is now a criminal offense where you're booked, deported and denied entry, legal or otherwise. In short, Biden adopted Trump's hard line policies. Looks like JT is doing the same. He had to do something! Toronto and Montreal parks are turning into tent cities.
Anyway everybody in these parts, especially from Haiti, are peed off at JT for shutting the door on them. They used to sneak through other countries just to reach safe haven in Quebec. I guess that Quebecers had had enough of seeing public services strained and spread thin looking after so many refugees. I don't speak French but they tell me that for Spanish speakers French is very easy to learn and visa versa. That's why so many headed to Quebec. What's this got to do with bte? Nothing.
