For example, if a company has committed to deliver oil that they don't have then in order to deliver on their commitment they have to buy it in order to be able to deliver it. If the oil price that they buy oil at goes higher than the price that they agreed to deliver oil at, then they lose money. So, it's not always the case that sp increases with increasing wti.
