Let's do some math.....

Sell 1 million shares within 25% of the 2022 peak - $6.61 average sale over several months EASY!
Buy 1 million shares within 25% of the 2023 low - $4.68 average purchase over several months EASY!

$6.61 sale price vs .41 average purchase price for a taxable gain of $6.2 million
Maximum capital gains due $1.67 million
$4.68 average purchase price on 1 million new shares $4.68 million

$6.61 million sale - $1.67 million tax - $4.68 million purchase = $260K

No future tax liability on the move from .41 to $4.68, same 1 million shares, $260K in your jeans.
None of this required doing anything near the top or near the bottom.  It just required a little discipline.  Sometimes it is better to be lucky than.......
