Others in the space (with long life assets) are just content to keep current operations as is and buyback shares and grow the div.
If SU wants/needs to grow production then they may be looking but both of these have been on incredible runs and trading at over 5+ year highs.
ATH is a smaller producer, appr 30,000 bbls/day thermal but regulatory in place to grow to 40,000+ and profitable as they are in pre-payment royalty till 2027 earliest and until 2030's on some other producing assets. They also have very valuable corporate tax pools of over $3B.
MEG is 3 times the size of ATH, more profitable per bbl.
