New Stratus Energy Inc. is a Canada-based oil and gas company focused on Latin America. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, exploration, and development of oil and gas properties. It holds approximately 50% indirect interest in GoldPillar International Fund SPC Ltd. (GoldPillar). GoldPillar, in turn, holds a 40% equity stake in Petrolera Vencupet, S.A. (Vencupet). Vencupet holds the rights for oil production in six fields located in Eastern Venezuela, which include Adas, Lido, Limon, Leona, Oficina Norte and Oficina Central (the Fields) all located onshore in the Anzoategui and Monagas States. The Fields are located onshore in the Eastern Venezuela Basin and have an aggregate area of 794.2 square kilometers (km2). It also entered into a definitive agreement to acquire over 49% equity stake in Operaciones Petroleras Soledad S.de R.L. de C.V. (OPS), a private oil and gas company in Mexico. OPS is the third-party contractor and operator of a hydrocarbons production contractor.

I don't know but the effect of any Canadian sanctions would be about the same as Botswana sanctioning Venezuela. US sanctions bite hard. Anybody doing business with this country can be denied access to US dollars and have accounts frozen or worse. The US dollar is the world's reserve currency. Many people demand payment in US dollars.
