Regardless of what is going on in Hardisty companies can massage their numbers. Often you can find in in a deep dive of the financial reports, but not always. Audited financial statements do make it harder to fudge, but if a company wants to be dishonest it will be. It is why trust in management is so important.

One large restaurant chain with a mix of company owned and franchise stores always meets its sales. It does this by selling company stores to franchises if sales are down and buying them back if sales are up. If a store is sold it is included in revenue.
