RE:RE:Offshore Wind IndustryInteresting how the Orsted request for higher subsidies plays out in the US. Willl they get their 40% instead of current 30%.
Noticed that foreign companies like BP, Equinor, Orsted , RWE are doing all the building and will receive the revenues and subsidies. Looking at the world map. it's the foreign companies to whom the electricity money will flow, including Northland. Add in demand for higher electricity prices to address recent inflation, interest rate hikes, etc
More nationalistic groups have picked up on this and demand more local content and benefits to local communities.
Also that the US Gov't themselves will have to build windfarms to meet their ambitious targets. Private enterprise may not cut it.
For low wind areas like the Gulf of Mexico, wind for green hydrogen production would make things economically feasible. The focus until now, was for the domestic consumer and not value added industry. Shell for example could build offshore windfarms to power it's operations. No need to go through an auction process.
Noticed GE trying to get a 18MW turbine built. But also watching improvement of technologies for low wind areas. RWE of Germany may have something. That's maybe why they won the recent Gulf Coast auction. Nobody else was bidding.
A lot of interesting things ahead fopr offshore wind and hoping progress will be made on most fronts.
