CROSSING AN OCEAN TO GET SOMETHING JUST 90 MILES AWAYInteresting read below.
Goes to show everyone how deeply rooted the US sentiment against Cuba is. There's an abundance of Ni 90 miles away being processed by our beloved dog Sherritt and yet the US chooses to seek metals an ocean away with partners who haven't been so friendly lately....
I suggest again that Sherritt should consider pursuing other sources of nickel domestically since they already have an operating mill in place at Fort. The Ambatovy venture almost sunk Sherritt because of plummeting nickel prices so anything that would cause them such financial pain sould be avoided. Perhaps a partnership arrangement with an existing nickel miner? At least then, if the Cuba-Sherritt arrangement does sour or gets broken by a direct US action, they'll be able to continue operations. At the moment all their eggs sit in Moa.
IMO the Cuban populace may actually benefit from their politicians cozying up to Russia and China in that it will force the US to either bring Cuba into the fold in a benign or malignant way but be done with it once and for all.
