The takeaway of all this is that fossil fuels play the largest role in our energy mix. Furthermore, they are the only sources that are quickly able to respond to meed increasing energy demand.
Solar, wind, hydro, are all long lead time heavy capital intensive projects, that cannot be easily stepped up as quickly as coal gas or oil fuels. Hydro is already built out, nuclear has a very long NIBY and build time, and wind and solar are intermittent requiring to be paired with another fossil fuel sourced baseload.
This is why fossil fuels will be a round for a long time as the energy 'swing producer'.
