The time it takes for a patent application to appear on the USPTO PTapp website can vary for a few reasons. One primary factor is the backlog of applications that the USPTO needs to process, and since COVID all bets are off. Patent application reviews are rigorous and in-depth by the examiners, searching for prior art, and even negotiations between the applicant and the examiner.
 
The process can take months, (and years) depending on the complexity of the invention and the workload at the USPTO. Additionally, and beleive it or not some applications might not be published immediately if the applicant requests non-publication or if the application is still pending.

The recent overhaul of the USPTO search function has also left many people scratching their heads.
