I may not be the smartest person around but all these new individuals will require foodstuff and the like. In addition China and India have gone from a mostly agrarian based society to a much more sophisticated and diverse economic platforms. These in turn create a wealthier population that are moving towards a middle class (i.e. cars, homes, heat, consumer products) which in turn create a need for fossil fuels. You do the math...BTW Canada has accepted 1 million new immigrants this year alone. These individuals are going to require heat during the winter months.  Do you think that increasing our population will reduce our carbon footprint? It will create a larger consumer base demanding that they get the same lifestyle that you have. Wait I forgot.  we have the carbon tax. That is going to solve our problem.
