RE:Well Bid for Bankrupt Clinic in WinnipegI would like to comment on the company’s latest acquisition.
Will the company be able to attract enough physicians to fill the leased space. The clinic struggled to recruit and lease vacant space to make ends meet. One of the original problems that contributed to this situation was the significant doctor shortage in Manitoba.
Unfortunately for the company, half of the 70 of the physicians working at the clinic retired or left following the bankruptcy filing. The company will also have to convince the 34 physicians still working at the clinic to keep their practices. However, some physicians have indicated they would leave if payments owing are not respected by the new owners, as it would be more strategic to either join another clinic or start a new physician-owned clinic elsewhere.
Also, how many patients has the clinic lost since the physicians retired or left the clinic.
On another matter, as per my blog of August 22nd several provinces have already expanded pharmacies scope of practice and the number of provinces which are allowing this as well as the number of services are steadily increasing. I can’t help but wonder what will be the long term impact on the company’s clinics. I wonder if the provincial governments want to do away with private clinics.
