You do like to chomp hard on the occasional red herring Kav. I think the EV issue is completely irrelevant for the next 7-10 years. 

no doubt electric vehicles will have an impact some day on the 25-28% of oil demand coming from gasoline. But not today. 

Something has to generate the electricity going into the battery. Renewables have cost trillions so far and barely moved the needle. The grid expansion needed has NOT happened yet. We are having issues WORLDWIDE with electrical capacity BEFORE the EV utopia is here. 

COAL usage is at an all time high never mind oil and gas - there is your model. Throwing up development roadblocks creates price spikes. 

Talking about the weather tomorrow doesn't heat your home today. Europe is about to get their second lesson on the subject this winter.
