Christian County Board Approves Bid For Weapon Detection Systems In Middle Schools

Superintendent Chris Bentzel and Board Chair Tom Bell

During Thursday night’s meeting, the Christian County School Board approved a bid to acquire weapon detection systems for the two middle schools and heard an update regarding the progress of the construction project for the new high school.

District Technology Coordinator Dr. Jason Wilson presented the two bids for the purchase of weapon detection systems for Christian County Middle School and Hopkinsville Middle School: CKT Technology out of Indianapolis, Indiana, and ERS Wireless out of Louisville. He explained that CKT Technology offers an Extract One system at a cost of just under $500,000 and ERS offers a Motorola system for approximately $659,460.

He said they will be putting three different lanes of weapon detection systems at one of the doors at each middle school and currently they have four lanes at each high school.

In other action, the board approved a bus driver incentive program and the resignation of District 2 board member Tiffany Mumford Brame.

Board members also heard an update from Tim Geegan with Alliance Corporation about the construction of the new Christian County High School near Ft. Campbell Boulevard and Lover’s Lane. He said when they first looked at the job there were a lot of questions about the site: the composition of the soil, sinkholes, and rock. However, Geegan added this is one of the better sites they have ever worked on.

In response to a question about the sinkhole, Geegan explained that after excavating and exposing the area, it was discovered to be primarily solid rock. As a solution, a concrete slab has been placed over that area.
