RE:OH MY THIS ISN'T GOOD...If you really wanted to get a barometer on the readiness of the general public to spend (atrociously) on EVs, just witness the king of automakers, Toyota. They watched and waited these past years, and, got lots of "what the hell are they waiting for?! Toyota is letting it all get away from them!"

Toyota has finally come to market with something "EV", but continued to bet heavily on hybrids - ie: you still want a tiger in your tank as you whisk by some stranded soul on the highway that ran empty on electricity.
Toyota reaps the sales on vehicles that aren't limited in distance, limited in where to get "fuel". The rest of the car makers are seeing that they've run through the bulk of the early adopters - folks with more money than they need vs. lunchbox bluecollar folks who can't splurge a years' pay for basic transportation.
EVs are a luxury and will be for quite a long time to come. Just listen to Elon - he was sounding a little stressed on that last Tesla corporate call.
