There are pros and cons depending on one's tolerance to risk and investment objectives.
If you see an impending recession and like ENB then it would make sense to hold the preferreds instead of the commons and then switch back to the commons as the SP of the commons go down in a recession since the preferreds react more to interest rates and they are near their peak for this cycle.
If you don't care about that and are a long term holder of ENB through thick and thin, you are better off holding the commons and benefit from rising dividends and capital appreciation over time.
