Lithium Industry Developments

Lithium Industry Developments
The lithium industry has been experiencing major developments despite spot prices decreasing, including ExxonMobil and other oil and gas companies announcing their interest in and shift into lithium production and a $3.5B investment into the US battery manufacturing and clean energy transition made by the Biden-Harris Administration.

Furthermore, a new billion-dollar lithium battery manufacturing plant will be built in Metro Vancouver, benefitting Canadian landholders as it is set to be supplied entirely by domestic mining.

This will be the largest factory in Canada for high-performance lithium-ion battery cells, producing up to 135 million battery cells per year for automotive vehicles, aerospace, consumer electronics, power tools and medical devices. With this, it's clear the demand for lithium is expected to continue to skyrocket, further emphasizing Direct Lithium Extraction's (DLE) potential as a leading extraction option based on its ability to double lithium production while reducing environmental damage.

Having recently expanded its capabilities beyond its Rainbow Lake Lithium Project with a permanent demonstration plant capable of testing oilfield brines from multiple basins across North America in real-time, Volt Lithium (VLT.v VLTLF) has emerged as a leading DLE company poised to benefit from this news.

With the permanent demonstration plant, VLT is able to expand its capabilities beyond its flagship Rainbow Lake Project, opening up a vast market opportunity and enabling the use of its proprietary DLE technology to extract lithium regardless of the brine's original lithium concentrations.

As DLE has the ability to double lithium production, VLT's proprietary tech boasts an impressive lithium recovery rate of 90% from concentrations as low as 34 mg/L while maintaining commercial viability. Most notably, however, VLT's tech can achieve 97% recoveries using 120mg/L concentrations.

In offering a compelling opportunity to oil and gas operators by providing a win-win situation by adding value to existing oilfield operations, VLT is on track to become a leading player in the DLE sector.

As discussed by Volt Lithium (VLT.v VLTLF) CEO Alex Wylie, there is a massive opportunity for oil and gas companies producing significant quantities of brine as part of their normal operations to collaborate with DLE companies to add value to existing operations: https://www.asce.org/publications-and-news/civil-engineering-source/civil-engineering-magazine/article/2023/10/new-methods-could-extract-large-lithium-stores-from-brine
