RE:Barrick Gold will buy this IMO
Panama passed another law very shortly after Law 406, (the law declared unconstitutional), called Law 407. That law declared an unlimited moratorium on ANY future metals mining concessions in Panama, prohibits the renewal of any metals mining concessions presently in operation, and cancelled any present new contract negotiations in progress. Also, be advised that the President of Panama has stated that he will respect the Supreme Court decisin and that the mine will be closed and placed in care and maintenence until future arbitration decisions, negotiations, etc. are completed. I think it's going to be a very long time, if ever, before this mine reopens. I have no idea if Barrick would be interested in taking that risk or what furthur damage will occur to First Quantum as I don't invest in miners but from a common-sense standpoint the only reason I can see them doing that is if the company's other assets outside of Cobre Panama make it worthwhile. For those same reasons I have serious doubts about any other operator taking over anytime real soon as well.
