RE:Venzuela Guyana Spat

RE:Venzuela Guyana SpatA military conflict is more likely than you think.

Guyana has essentially no military.
The area is sparsely populated.
Venezuela has deployed their milkitary to the border.
So if they want to it should be a walk in the park.

Politically
They are having a sham referendum to justify military action.
Maduro is an unpopular dictator.
Unpopular dictators look for easy military gains to gain popularity.

Socially
In venezuala schools they already changed all the maps.
Maduro already shut down opposition candidates from running which is counter to the US demand to lift sanctions.

Overall.
I do not see how the US can possibly lift sanctions from them.
1) they will liekly occupy the rural area with little resistance and claim it as their own.
2) opposition candidates are unlikely to be given fair or free elections
