Yes, the obvious choice is to not to convert but stick with series A and a very healthy return especially when you consider that interest rates on GICs are probably headed down over the next few years.
AQN has some serious debt issues but it shouldn't be much problem to cover the preferred share dividends. This investment has been a good one for me.
