American Recycler Features Volt Lithium

American Recycler recently conducted an interview with Alex Wylie, the President and CEO of Volt Lithium (Ticker: VLT or VLTLF for US investors). In the interview, Wylie delved into the complex dynamics surrounding the extraction of essential minerals for electric vehicles (EVs) and batteries. He shed light on the challenges faced by the battery industry, including ethical concerns, environmental degradation, and human rights issues in mining regions.

As highlighted in the article below, obtaining permits for lithium mines in North America presents significant hurdles, sometimes requiring up to 17 years, despite the urgent need for a dependable North American supply to support the growing EV industry.

Wylie underscored the importance of substantial investments in recycling technologies to ensure the recycling of a majority of critical minerals from EVs but emphasized that in the short term, the growth of EVs will outpace the recycling industry's ability to supply critical minerals. Wylie asserts that America "needs a secure domestic supply of critical minerals to supply the materials to sustain the growth of the EV industry".

Aiming to minimize additional environmental disruptions, reduce capital costs and expedite the permitting process, Volt Lithium is actively developing lithium extraction technology designed for seamless integration into existing oil and gas operations.

Volt's 2-stage Direct Lithium Extraction technology is specifically tailored for lithium found in oilfield brines. It eliminates 99% of contaminants in the first stage and extracts up to 90% of lithium in the second stage.

Initially intended for Volt's Rainbow Lake lithium brine project, estimated to contain 99 billion barrels of lithium-infused brine, Volt Lithium plans to extend its extraction technology to oilfield brines across various North American basins through a recently announced demonstration plant.

Following successful lab testing and a pilot production program validating their extraction processes, VLT's permanently commissioned demonstration plant will expand the company's industry applications. This expansion opens up opportunities for partnerships and collaborations, significantly enhancing its potential impact and reach across North America.
