Off-Highway 48V Hybrid Diesel-Electric NDA
If you have the time and the inclination, you might want to revisit Eric's Tech Deep Dive video. He discusses many of the topics that are now being bandied about.
At
Min 25:30, Eric explains why the coil driver is highly suited for hybrid applications. This helps explain why EXRO was chosen for the subj NDA over the competition.
I did not realize until revisiting this video that Eric spent part of his previous life working on starter generators (sometimes refered to as mild hybrids). These typically operate at 48V, which is the voltage for the NDA.
The first demo application for the CD under this NDA is in the agriculture space. Full electrification is not suitable for some farm vehicles as they cannot afford the charging downtime during busy parts of the season. A mild hybrid configuration, where the battery is charged by the diesel, avoids this problem and provides some meaningful emissions and fuel reductions.
This could be an interesting market segment for the CD...one that many haven't considered. Take John Deere for example... the world's largest agricuture manufacturer with more than $50B in annual revenue. Not that far below Tesla. It previously was identified as a potential partner.
