I can see retiring there given the climate and the fact it has the lowest tax to GDP of the whole region. That could cause structural internal problems later but a retiree would not care much.

But I sure would not KEEP my money there (just spend it) because if the government can change the rules, break contracts on a whim like it did with FM....I'd be cautious.
You have to wonder about a government that will just cut it's GDP by 5% overninght, not to mention making 4000+ of it's citizens suddenly unemployed just before Christmas! A "responsible" government would have perhaps enacted a "sunset clause" of maybe ten years to allow FM to at least recoup it's investment...especially when you consider the small footprint that FM occupies in the region!!!
Go Google Maps and type in Cobre Panama.....it's MINISCULE!
Nothing about this makes sense at all!
