TVE and ATH could not have taken more different paths, ATH focused on debt and kept production constant. TVE increased production by a factor of 3 and are now focusing on the debt incurred to accomplish this. Personally I think both approaches can work if oil prices hang around current prices. The market clearly prefers ATH's approach because meaningful returns to shareholders come sooner and their is less risk if oil prices dip for a while
Most of the companies that chose to increase production by 2 or 3 times by purchasing production haven't done as well yet (WCP, CPG,TVE, BTE, ARX) Understandable that shareholders are skeptical, for anyone that has been invested in oil and gas for at least 15 years it hasn't been much fun. So to see ATH doing this well is nice for a change and who knows the ones that chose to increase in size might just end up being late bloomers if and only if prices hang in there
