RE:RE:US MSOsProduct diversity and Product Quality for sure are solids for the industry.
I got really excited about beverage skus as a better, healthier option to light alcohol and beer.
There was a definite movement towards beverages with lots of interest from big beer companies who were studying on it to be prepared because they felt it was going to be gamechanging for their marketshare with consumers switching to less calories and sugar and a thc buzz rather than an alcohol buzz.
Those participants even developed fast acting cannabinoid drinks that would be similar to alcohol for rapid acting and offset.
The first run of edibles and drinkables didn't have that rapid on and off technology and that is where people got themselves in to trouble by overdosing before it kicked in and the offset could get you on the awol list too because you stayed high too long.
All of the serious players seem to have some science to raise the standards to quick acting thc.
I can't wait to be able to go to my wateringhole and getting a CBD drink that doesn't give a hangover and might help with my sleep or pain. I need that more than I need to get buzzed. As a matter of fact, arthritis hurts pretty much all the time.
The fact that the law and policy makers have gone overboard to protect us from ourselves and our indulgence habits which is prohibiting alcohol and thc being served together or even in the same bar, lounge or retailer is misguided and a case of bad legislation that is harder to fix because it wasn't well though out in the first place.
They didn't acknowledge the new science implemented to keep consumers from getting themselves in trouble.
I believe that cannabinoid infused beverages are going to be huge gamechangers and very profitable as pot takes a bite out of the alcohol market as a healthier, less calorie option for drinkers.
This rewriting of the rule book to allow cannabinoids and alcohol to be served at the same venue is long overdue, so much so, that even those soft alcohol guys that were studying up on it seem to have back-burnered it rather than lobbying for it.
Social progress could look like going to the bar for a thc/cbd drink or both combined for the purpose of pain relief or as a sleep aid as an option to alcohol and the destruction that has been well documented by its consumption.
I was sorry to see Canopy mothballing its Toronto beverage facility rather than fighting for the promise of cannabinoid beverages. I guess we can thank the Canadian rulemakers for coming up with ridiculous possession rules for beverages, although they have adjusted those now.
Lobbyists need to be involved in the lawmaking so the business can get what it needs to be profitable and the soft alcohol guys seem to be the ones that should be charged with that task. They should also pack some of those political contributions that they are used to handing out for their alcohol business.
Level the playing field for the thc and hemp business and try to see the health benefits, especially for pot versus alcohol.
