I found it fascinating because I never heard of it before but it makes sense because if the soils are high in metals then that would end up in the trees as well.

If you read the paragraph on this study it said there was a 4km by 6km elliptical ring around the old Rottenstone mine that was high in palladium Pd and other metals. It goes on to say that the spruce tree data substantiates the idea of more significant PGE mineralization in the area. I found it very interesting.
