The algos are adaptive though and will respond to changes in price (either up or down) by pausing the trade until some trigger or user intervention is received.
Because Instinet is a "dark pool", it is entirely possible that many of the shares you see sold by Instinet and bought by Instinet are the same person on both sides of the transaction. That's why it seems like they have an endless supply of shares to sell at the bid and suppress the share price.
This kind of blatant manipulation should be illegal.
