RE:RE:Canada’s SU looks to cut high oil sands mine operating coststhe 2024 KOMATSU 980E-5 has electric drive but powered by diesel, IMO, the correct way to take advantage of electric drive without the downside of battery. IE it's a hybrid without battery (or very little amount of battery)  It should save on maintenance cost and 3-5% in fuel cost compared to 100% diesel version.  Emission from diesel is lower too in this type of application.   I can see all big mining machine going this way.There are growing number of shops entering this business to retrofit existing diesel semi to this type of set up.
