Cost of Living and Carbon Tax( BC double Bonkers) British Columbia has officially become the least affordable province in the entire country.
The price of gas, groceries, and housing all continue to climb while real incomes drop, resulting in half of British Columbians being $200 or less away from not being able to pay their bills at the end of the month. People in all corners of the province feel that no matter how hard they work, they just can’t get ahead of the rising costs.
Instead of providing relief and lowering costs for hard-working British Columbians in an NDP-caused affordability crisis, David Eby instead plans to make life even more unaffordable by tripling the carbon tax. This is on top of the already 30 new and increased taxes the NDP has created over the last seven years.
The NDP’s assault on affordability doesn’t end there. Months after provincial premiers of all political stripes called for equal carbon tax relief on home heating fuel, David Eby has doubled down on punishing British Columbians.
As part of the NDP’s “CostBC” scheme, they will ban natural gas on home heating by 2030, forcing people to choose between freezing in their homes or spending thousands of dollars on expensive electric heat pumps.
Heating our homes is essential, especially here in the Cariboo, and budgets are tighter than ever. This is just another NDP overreach that will hammer family budgets and empty working-class pockets.
BC United firmly opposes the NDP’s “CostBC” scheme to ban natural gas home heating, and our team has a common sense plan to make life more affordable for British Columbians.
A BC United government will eliminate the carbon tax on home heating fuels. Heating your home is not a choice, eliminating this tax will ensure affordable home heating across the province.
Secondly, we will permanently eliminate the provincial gas tax, which will save drivers up to $30 every time they fill their tanks. People in the Cariboo need to drive to get to work and drop their kids off at school and should not be punished for an unavoidable cost.
Finally, we would cancel David Eby’s plan to triple the carbon tax and if decision-makers in Ottawa choose to scrap the federal carbon tax, we will remove it in B.C. as well, ensuring that our province is not left out in the cold.
British Columbians are facing an affordability crisis, seeing a 62 per cent increase in food bank visits last year. Instead of providing much-needed relief David Eby recklessly plans to triple the carbon tax and ban natural gas heating.
