I thought we were living through another 1999, but after thinking about your comment, I think it may be more like 1976. At that time, the Fed Funds rate was 5%, but it rose to over 18% over the next few years as energy prices and wage pressures stoked inflation relentlessly.
Fun fact: In 1981, Canada's 21% interest rate was officially declared the highest since the birth of Christ.
