Most successful politicians surrounded themselves with loyalist that they grew up with and knew for decades....Trump didn't do that

The other thing that Trump didn't do was to clean up the swamp....he left too many backstabbers in the beaurocracy.  I was at a BnB in Northern Ireland and at breakfast there were a couple CIA operators on holidays from an assignment with the Brit Government...after calling them out..they admitted who they were and said that they hated Trump and were committed to undermining him
