RE:What is the carbon tax costing Canadians? Upon receiving my last Natural Gas bill from my Alberta based supplier I didn't fully understand the amount of the Fed Carbon Tax imposed seeing that it was actually greater than the charges for the gas itself. I contacted the supplier who supplied the dollar figure per GJ which the Feds have mandated. I used 11.23 GJ of NG which came to 21.85 ( this is spot pricing which varies with the price of NG, does not include a daily service charge or any of the other various add ons). Carbon Tax amounted to $37.37 (see below). I had no idea that a tax on a commodity could actually be greater than the commodity itself. On April 1 it only gets greater.
Only in Canada you say...it's a blooming pity...
"Federal Carbon tax Per GJ is $3.327 from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. So for your use 11.23 GJ costs you 11.23GJ multiplied by $3.327 = $37.37."
