Brazil Launches Transformative Agricultural Methane Project Sept 2023 Article News Update
Brazil joined the CCAC in 2023 with an ambitious agenda to address short-lived climate pollutants in some of its key emitting sectors. At the top of the priority list are emissions from the agriculture sector, especially methane emissions derived from subsectors such as livestock manure management and ruminants.
The project Integrating Methane Mitigation Into National Agriculture Strategies – which is guided by the strategy of Brazil's ABC+ Plan for Adaptation and Low Carbon Emissions in Agriculture – aims to develop data coordination and monitoring tools, as well as institutional capacity which will enable action to reduce methane emissions through manure management.
To achieve the targets of the ABC+ plan, Brazil must expand the use of sustainable agricultural technology across 72 million hectares by 2030. Manure management is one of eight measures aiming to reduce agricultural methane emissions. To help the adoption of better manure management practices, the ABC+ plan also includes financial incentives for producers.
