THE RESORT - investment parableThere once was an investor,
who decided to purchase a 1950's lakefront resort.
He didn't have enough money to do so,
so he offered smaller investors a great opportunity...
Invest xxx amount of money to spruce up the resort
and you'll recieve a timeshare ownership granting the small investors
yearly accommodation and use of the resorts accommodations and aquatic
activities along with full meal plan, for as long as they held their share ownership.
Many invested.
Happy to be part owner of the, resort.
As time passed,
the property owner recieved enough monies to remodel the resort.
Main lodge was restored to prestine condition including 40 individual
separate cottage suites by the lower lakeside.
Years passed, and the nearby town grew in size.
It wasn't long before the resort - found itself in the heart of
the sprawling tourist town where visitors willingly paid $500 - $1,000
per night stay. The resort was in a prime zip realestate....worth far more.
Business was booming.
The owner decided to invite in another large investor.
At the time it seemed the right thing to do.
More capital, provided more growth opportunity in which to expand the
massive land package creating all the more accommodations,
for all the more tourists.
Original owner and new investment firm inked the deal.
Yet, unbeknown to the smaller investors who helped launch
the resort - would soon see drastict changes.
First thing the large investor did...?
remove all existing well trained staff.
The small timeshare owners noticed the
resorts prestige service was on a decline.
Service was limited, The inclusive 3 meal plan was revoked.
No preffered access to the aquatic activities.
New staff hired - had no care for the small investors.
More Changes
New investment owner decided to expand another part of
the resort. Converted a section of land to tent and rv camping.
Creating a two tier value status.
This new section of land was well away from the original upper and
lower lodge - the original upper and lower was richer...more saught after.
It wasn't long after,
original timeshare investors recieved notice,
their timeshares had been converted to the tent and camping zone.
A zone less prestige - well away from the resorts luxery.
No more fringe benefits,..
small timeshare owners would now have to bring their own food.
and if the wanted to take part in lakefront activities they would
have to travel off resort... to the nearby piblic beach.
Original small investors were furious.
Their upper / lower resort value was taken.
What once was, had been revised... without consent.
The original small investors had a huddle meeting.
decided to appoint one person to address the original owner and new investor.
Short and sweet, a list was compiled outlinning all the changes the
small investors have experienced, which at one garnered respect.
With determination, the appointed small investor navigated the half hazzard
camp trail - which barely led to the main resort.
There.., the appontee found original owner and new investor on the resorts
panoramic deck enjoying drinks and admiring the beauty of the original
upper and lower lakeside resort.
The appointee placed the list on the table and said, where is our
promised value we once purchased ?
Moral of story ?
Hold tight to original investment.
It's where the greatest value is.
Cheers...
