The 1Q 2024 will only disappoint if expectations are high, which they shouldn't be.
BCE just announced cost cutting measures on Feb. 08 less than 2 months prior to the 1Q ending.
How can BCE possibly show great earnings when they will be getting hit with one time costs of severances due to the 4800 layoffs announced?
If the market is expecting great earnings, of course it will be disappointed. If the market is rational, it will realize that savings will show up in the bottom line next few quarters in a BIG way.
How will the market react? So far the sellers have been in command, but I believe BCE will be able to cover their dividend with increased FCF by year end, and improve its Payout Ratio by year end and especially in 2025.
But as for expecting stellar 1Q results, it can't happen. Plain and simple. It's called math.
