RE:RE:Red DeerToo many questions. Did you have kids? If married, was your wife independently financially secure? Or was your estate sufficient to support her? Did you have other dependents, like aged parents?
Everybody has different needs. When I was young and naive I bought a small whole life policy. It had some tax advantages but a piddling return. I did enjoy the payout at maturity but I wouldn't do it again. More importantly, when my wife got pregnant I took out term insurance for peanuts. I held it until the kids hit uni and then reevaluated. I decided to keep it for the small monthly cost and potential estate boost until my parents passed and I inherited. Now I am without it.
Circumstances matter.
