in the pursuit of cost and weight (to increase fuel mieage), plastic is substituting metals, hence we are seeing stupid problem in modern cars that hardly known to occurs just 10-40 years ago. Outsourcing car component manufacturing to china also contributing tto he quality decine. It isn't a flaw of ICE per say, it is a flawed logic of trying to squeeze more profit out of ICE automobilies to pay for huge losses in EV development and then abandonment (ie Ford), and unreasonable emission reduction policy set by politicians who pick emission standard base on gut feeling.
Still, ICE fire risk and damage are still way less than EV. Fuel line or injector leak occur only in high line pressure situation and a fire may occur in hot running engine compartment, usually not found when a car parked idled on driveway or inside a garage where as EV battery can ignite into a fire inferno at ANYTIME, PARKED OR RUNNING.
