Oceana went through turmoil a few years ago, indigenous groups essentially tried to shut Didipio down for good, advocated for no FTAA---Oceana prevailed and is to all accounts a good corporate citizen environmentally, socially; Philippines relies on massive influxes of hard currencies, remittances, from Australia, Canada, U.S., Great Britain, Arab states etc. I think that plays into things, Marcos needs good relations on that basis with western allies for that pecuniary factor and for their nemesis China. But, as you say the diversification is positive in an ever changing geopolitical world. IMO
