Most folks here will never be in that ethereal cohort whose capital gains exceed $250k in a single year. Morneau probably is. Having sold the business that was founded by his father to Telus for $2.3B and, additionally, having married into the McCain Foods family, he could easily have afforded to pay for a family vacation but chose instead to let the WE Charity (yes that OuiOui mess) to pick up the tab of $41k. And was forced to resign, in disgrace, from his job of Finance Minister.
Trudeau ought to have fired him except that his own reputation was sullied by his family's involvement in WE. Do we ever learn!
The long discredited Milton-trickledown-Friedmanomics, I see, is still alive and well.
Cheers.
Lol
$250k in a single year is not a lot. We are managed by people that can't count. Who in the hell thinks it's good to hike capital gain tax? Canada has productivity problems.
And what's not surprising the clowns in province of Quebec decided to follow the same new rule.
Trudeau is like the worst prime minister ever. He's as good as his father.
Yeah, sure "Canada has productivity problems". We all know that. That has become a catchy but vapid phrase I hear repeated a lot, by Andrew Coyn and other folks at the Fraser Institute.
Has anyone ever demonstrated that letting the rich get richer enhances Canadian productivity? Or are we still talking trickle down nonsense.
There is no comparison between Trudeau Pere & Fils. No other PM has ever captured all 75 out of 75 Quebec seats. I had many differences on policy with PET but I respected his intellect. He was always ready and willing to explain and defend his ideas, even to a bunch of impoverished graduate students in Tavan's brasserie, le Club des Moustaches, on rue de la Montagne.
I know, I know, I know, folks in Alberta and out west love to hate him. And they'll have a conniption at the mere mention of his name. I understand that. But then there are also folks from Brockville to Burnaby who can't stand anything French.
PET was one of the better PMs of Canada. Pity, the offspring falls so short.
But hey, you want PP? You can have him. Good luck!
Cheers.
