RE:RE:Husky oil spill… Cenovus fined my 2 cents
the husky offshore oil spill at newfoundland is way overblown, it is for the gov't to show off to the public that they are on top of thing. Yes, it's good to keep management accountable but in world scale of things, 250 cubic meter spill is just a spit in world dumping scale. This oil spil was due to equipment malfunction or operator error, not due to poor corporate safety or environmental policy.
Cenovus Energy has been ordered to pay a $2.5-million fine for its role in the largest offshore oil spill ever recorded in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Note the word 'recorded'. I can assure you there many many more oil spilled in the area, and around the world ocean NOT recorded from passing ships that go into other countries or international water way to dump their waste water and bunker oil into the sea, everyday. Big difference between clean crude oil versus bunker oil. Raw crude are easily biodegradeable, not toxic unlike bunker oil. I do not believe 1 bird or 1 fish was killed from that 250 m3 oil spilled from husky.

According to the group's estimate, the amount of oily water dumped into the oceans this way could amount to more than 200,000 cubic meters (52.8 million gallons) annually, or roughly five times the equivalent of the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska — one of the worst maritime environmental disasters.
