That is and will be a huge market. Second, being over 40, I don't have the time to grow my own and definitely don't what to go look for a drug dealer with kids in the car. Third, I don't trust what chemicals could be in illegal marijuana.
Finally, of course there will be consolidation, with the large companies, like Canopy leading the way or being bought out.
In regards to Cannabis users, or those considering it, market research is relatively easy to do on a very superficial level. All you need to do is discuss cannabis with folks who us it.
Here's what I found:
- a surprising number of people will admit to using it, either for rec or for medical use. This includes professionals and others you would never suspect as even casual users
- smoking it does appear to be the preference of younger users while edibles such as gummies are a close 2nd
- cannabis infused drinks are picking up in popularity and appear to be gaining attention through word of mouth vs advertising campaigns
- older people are being influenced / encouraged to use CBD oils for medical purposes by younger users. This is to avoid unwanted side affects of over the counter products as well as a cost saving move
- most prefer to avoid blackmarket due to concerns with contaminated MJ that may contain other drugs
Those are my findings, anyone inclined to make an effort may / should find similar results from discussing the topics with others
