Proximity to industrial demand

Proximity to industrial demand

BC Hydro is a dinosaur. It only understands centralized generation, with a few massive generating sources far away from the customers. Huge grid costs to get it there.

We need distributed production for resilience and reduced grid dependency.

-------------------------

One major issue is electricity transmission, which the current BC Hydro network and the transmission stations are not designed for and therefore don’t accommodate accessibility to offshore wind and is costly to build, one reason the Haida Gwaii project was delayed many times was that the generated energy couldn’t get connected to the network

------------------

The Hecate Strait has had offshore wind turbines proposed for a while. Hopefully that project goes forward. It would certainly help offset some of the power being consumed by industrial uses in Kitimat.
