NYSE-AMERICAN: WRN) is advancing the world-class Casino Project towards development. With Rio Tinto's and Mitsubishi's strategic investments in Western, the Company is focused on aggressively advancing the project.
POSITION SUMMARY
Western Copper and Gold Corporation ("WRN") is looking for a seasoned mining executive with permitting and operational experience to fill the role of Vice President, Engineering ("VP, Engineering"). The VP, Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the engineering operations and functions of the Company.
LOCATION
The VP, Engineering will ideally be based at the Company's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, BC, with frequent travel to Yukon. Candidates in Toronto, willing to travel the longer distance to Yukon. will also be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for leading the engineering operations for the Company's development project.
• Oversee the preparation of all Company technical studies and reports.
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams through all phases of the advancement of the project, including engineering,
procurement, construction management and commissioning. • Collaborate with project leadership to develop the project
execution strategy, including key milestones, timelines and deliverables.
• Prepare and review, as required, project engineering studies, design criteria, reports, plans and specifications.
• Drive accountability in budget, cost and schedule to ensure engineering projects are executed on time, on budget and in line with Western's quality standards.
• Responsible for negotiating and supporting the selection of all third-party design, engineering and other construction and consulting firms that may be engaged.
• Participate in meetings with external and internal stakeholders relating to the engineering operations and advancing the development of the project.
• Effectively communicate progress on the advancement of
the project to key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and executive team.
• Maintain proactive and open communication, providing accurate technical data, as well as insightful interpretation of that data.
• Lead technology and innovation initiatives with an emphasis on capturing opportunities at the Company's development project.
• Provide technical services support for business development initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions.
• Oversees the development and successful integration of Company-wide policies, standards and best practices for engineering operations.
• Embed a culture of continuous improvement regarding health, safety, operational efficiency and cost management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 15 years' progressive Engineering experience.
• Proven experience in leading the development of a major mining project from feasibility stage through design, permitting, and construction and into operations.
• Experience in open-pit mining, with significant exposure to copper, gold and metallurgical processes is an asset.
