I found one example of Warren Buffett shorting a stock and it was when he first started investing.

Total Shares he shorted was 1 and he solely did it to annoy his professor.  He tells the story well and chuckles throughout it.

He didn't become a billionaire through daytrading, he became who he is today through being more patient than the market on sectors and stocks he seen as grossly undervalued with a strong future potential.
