How do they know about self employed earnings.... you report it and if you fail to report it the tax penalty is equal to the tax you avoided so you pay double.
as for the other post, when you sell your house and move into your cottage that's the day it becomes your principal residence and taxes are owed on the difference between the cost of it on the date you bought it and the value of it on the date you move in.
Now if you don't report it you don't have to pay anything and you very well could get away with it but if you don't you pay double
