RE:RE:RE:Pains me to say it....but.. Are recent policy moves from the U.S. government enough to prop up its nascent battery industry and create a domestic #graphite supply chain, even in the face of competition from China? Some would say, YES, that tariffs announced by the U.S. have put battery makers on notice to start sourcing graphite locally. Others would say, NO, that until graphite producers and processors get direct assistance, from governments and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), they are as good as spinning their wheels, and that graphite and other critical mineral projects remain in limbo even as the clock ticks on creating a domestic EV industry and protecting the US auto industry as a whole. In this episode of National Public Radio’s “Planet Money” podcast, “Bringing a Tariff to a Graphite Fight,” reporter Sally Helm takes a deep dive into the challenges that lie before the Biden administration to stand up a graphite industry from scratch.
