RE:RE:RE:Silver lining? Only approx 2% haz material left containmentZibo, if and its a big if the HLP liners were not compromised, I am not sure why they would have to remove all the material, as the HLP is designed to hold to hold 92 million tonnes.

For me, the big question is if the embankment shifted with the slide.  If it didnt, again possible indications the liners might be ok, as the sumps are not located that far from the embankment, and the area were the vast majority of the pregnant leach solution is directed.

I assume there are numerous monitors installed throughout the liners, and if those monitors are not suggesting leaking, they might be in a better spot than completely removing all the material.

With the assumption of only 4 million tonnes of material  total and 2 million tonnes out of containment, my guess is the embankment held, as there are some geoligists guessing a third of the HLP slide down the slope and with the area at the embankment being the most saturated, you would think a complete blow out would have occured.

These before and after pictures are a really good indicator that the area below the embankment was not wiped out by much force, as much of the infrastructure is still standing.

Pure speculation on my part, but I would think if a major landslide like this one wasnt slowed down at the embankment, the damage would have extended much further
